Building backlinks to your website or blog can be a challenging process, especially if you aren’t sure what you are doing. There are several ways you can build backlinks, but you need to make sure you aren’t getting the wrong kind of link and that the link that you are building is quality. Backlinks are good for your website for a number of different reasons. Each link is like a thumbs up and shows Google and other search engines that your website is an authority. You do have to be careful with how you do this, however. If you are building too many links in a short time period, it can be bad for your website. Relevancy is also the key here. Any link you build needs to be relevant and make sense with what you are trying to target.
Social Media Traffic:
Be sure to post your content on social media. This includes Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. Google also likes to see social signals and so any content you post on social media is a good thing. The better the content, the more likely people are to share it and you will receive more backlinks.
Directory Submissions:
You can submit your website to directories as a natural way to get backlinks. Make sure the directory you are submitting your website to is industry related. If you have a fashion website, make sure to submit it to fashion directories. If you have a website for your dental practice, then submit it to dental directories and other medical websites. If you are submitting your website to every directory you see and it’s not relevant, this can be flagged by search engines and it can actually hurt your traffic.
Article Submission Sites:
If you have an article, there are article submission sites. The article would need to be unique for each submission site and you can’t take just one article and submit it to a bunch of different sites. Google’s Panda update made this a bad practice and search traffic will suffer if you do this.
Guest Posts:
Guest posts are similar to articles, but this involves writing an article on someone else’s blog. This not only provides a backlink but is also a great way to get some new website traffic or blog visitors, especially if your article is good and provides value.
Blog Commenting:
There is a right and wrong way to do blog commenting, so you have to be careful. Do not spam blogs with so many comments at once. You also need to be commenting on something relevant. Fashion bloggers can’t be leaving comments on car blogs and expect that it is going to lead to success. Don’t post more than a few comments per day, otherwise, this could be seen as spam and bad backlinking practice.
Press Releases:
Some people think that press releases are just articles. A press release is content that is written about a newsworthy event. This can be a new product or service launch, a newly updated website, or the company winning an award. However, in order for a press release distributor to accept the release and you actually benefit from the backlinks, it needs to be well written.
